I’m James McCoy, founder of McCoy Health Coaching and a certified Primal Health Coach. I specialise in helping men over 40 regain control of their health through a primal living approach. While I primarily work with men 40+, my methods can benefit anyone ready to improve their health and quality of life. My passion for health coaching comes from my own journey, a decade-long commitment to discovering what it means to live well.
Redefine your prime
For over a decade, I thrived on primal principles, gaining strength and vitality through natural foods and functional movement, honouring the wisdom of our ancestors. But in 2022, after prostate surgery, my recovery led me to drift away from those principles. I slipped into poor eating habits, lost energy, and watched as the weight crept back on. A follow-up doctor’s appointment only deepened my concern, with advice to adopt the conventional food pyramid and prepare for lifelong medication. Out of caution, I tried following this mainstream guidance.
The result? I felt worse than ever. My health and energy continued to decline, and I realised that the primal lifestyle I’d strayed from was what truly supported my well-being. Rejecting the standard approach, I re-embraced the primal path that had always felt right. This experience reinforced my commitment to a natural, ancestral way of living, and it’s a journey I’m passionate about sharing with others seeking a genuine path to health.
A primal journey reclaimed
Now, with the perspective that comes with age, I see health and vitality differently. I feel grounded, healthy, and confident in my current body. This experience has strengthened my passion for helping others – particularly men around my age – avoid the same frustrations I faced. While I’m not a doctor, I offer guidance that goes beyond one-size-fits-all solutions, helping you make changes that are practical, effective, and tailored to your unique needs.
Through McCoy Health Coaching, I focus on natural, whole-food nutrition, practical exercise strategies, stress management and reducing exposure to modern toxins. My goal is to help you “redefine your prime” so you can thrive in midlife and beyond.

A little more about me
I live in the historic city of Edinburgh, Scotland, with my husband and our two dogs, Frankie and Islay. Originally from Chicago, USA, I bring unique insight into both UK and US food markets and health trends, offering a balanced perspective to my clients. After relocating from London, where I lived for 30 years, I’ve embraced Edinburgh’s rich history, natural beauty and its relaxed pace. When I’m not coaching, I enjoy playing guitar and writing children’s stories.
My credentials
My professional background is in market research, but my lifelong passion has always been health and fitness. I’ve taken on challenges like marathons, Spartan races and CrossFit, and I thrive on helping others discover what they’re capable of achieving.
To formalise my knowledge and help others on their own health journeys, I became a certified Primal Health Coach through the Primal Health Coach Institute. This certification, which I pursued after my own health scare, enables me to guide men through the same transformative journey that helped me reclaim my health.
